Handling is indeed the art of right showing a dog in the ring. We’d like to underline – right showing, not just presence in the ring. A puppy shall undoubtedly be prepared for dog-shows! And, naturally, you shall be prepared, too. Handling of a dog begins from the most early age and includes inurement of a dog to the show stand at showing its movements in the ring. If all of that is new to you and you have never occupied yourself with preparing to dog-shows, then it is better to ask a handler for assistance – the person who puts dogs to the show on a professional basis, or a breeder ( most often breeders are handlers themselves). First “lessons’ shall be meant for your preparing and training, and only afterwards of your pet. It is much easier and faster to teach a dog do something right, then re-reach it after. You must not “go too far” – otherwise your pet may loose every interest to learning, and you also can be tired of it soon. Use delicacies, toys and endearing words as incentives – in this case you both, your little friend and you, will receive the sea of joy and positive emotions.
We can say with certainty that the success of your pet in the show activity depends very much on: 1. good appearance of your dog (well-groomed, clean hair, clean ears and teeth, cut claws); 2. dogs’ training 3. good shape of your pet (neither overfed, nor skinny); and 4. you and your behaviour in the ring.
In conclusion, we’d like to repeat the words of Nadezhda Goyda – having “fallen ill” with this breed once, you will continue to “be ill” with it the rest of your life. We have a proverb: « The Corgi is never too many and can never bee redundant!» The many having bought by chance the first Corgi after a while buy the second one, without fail, and often the third one; they begin be interested in dog-shows and breeding; establish breeding nurseries. It is hard to make up one’s mind to buy the first and second dog, afterwards it is much easier… Welcome to our ranks!
